1972 240 Transom

The existing boat was set up with i/o, I'm planing the re-build of the transom and i will be going with a porta bracket on the rounded transom. My thoughts are to enlarge the old i/o cut to 24" wide and extend it up to just above the upper mounting bracket of the porta bracket. I would use a 1/2' piece of coring material cut to fit inside the 24" cut out and then laminate it to the new coring on the inside of the transom. Another option would be cutting out the entire transom and forming one in flat, but i kind of like the rounded transom...All suggestions are welcome?

 If anyone needs information on a porta bracket for a 4 stroke 250 hp-300 hp, this is the blueprint for it.

That drawing is a good reference. I don't believe I have seen it before. However, it goes to a password protected link and it can be read on screen.

I would definitely keep the rounded transom and do whatever is necessary to build up a flat spot on the outside to thru bolt the porta bracket. I WISH I had the rounded transom. The other type built was not flat and will prove to be tricky during my rebuild.

I’m definitely going to keep the rounded transom. Based on the cut sheet measurements I would need to create a 3/16” flat spot at the port and starboard edges. In other words it would go from 0 in the center to roughly 3/16” at the outside edge.

Sent…Keep in mind that bracket is for a transom height up to 36” and 300 hp.
