FF 176 Fuel Tank
« on: February 03, 2022, 11:49:11 AM »
Hello fellow aquasporters. I am replacing the fuel tank in my 1979 FF176. I would love to hear some opinions on the Mueller tanks. Has anyone installed them? It is a rather shallow compartment. Any problems with fittings? Thanks in advance for your advise.

Not sure if the FF 17 has same tank dimensions as the CC 17, but if it does (56 x 20 x 6) then you won’t find a plastic tank with those dimensions on the market…..see this recent thread for ‘82 170.  Cheaper to have aluminum custom built to spec.

Thanks Jason. It is the same size as the cc17. Looks like I will have to have one made. Any suggestions where I could look for the specs with the location for the sending unit etc?

Michael, where are you located - shipping is expensive.

I am in New Hampshire. There is a local welder here who can fabricate the tank if I can provide the specs. Thanks for the help.

I reconfirmed the specs on the invoice from the tank I had fabricated….56”x20”x6”  .125 AL.   As far as the specs for sender unit hole, I measured using the old tank I pulled out of hull.  Assuming you still have the old tank, I reckon that’s the most accurate method.

Thanks again. I got the boat without the tank so I am starting from scratch. I think I will wait until spring and get the boat opened up, pull up the floor panel and get the measurements there. There is an inspection port right above the sender that i can use for the location. Really appreciate your time and advise on this.

Michael you can reach out to Phil at Alloy Metal Works in NY. They were one of the OEMs used by Aquasport. You tell him what model you have and he'll probably have the original drawings. Worth a call.

No problem.  There are a number of threads here to help you determine how to secure the tank….the modified pascoe method is a tried and true way if there isn’t straps already installed.

Hi Rick and Jason,
I just wanted to write and thank you for your good advise. I ordered the tank from metal alloy works in New York. It came in last week and fit like a glove. The guys at metal alloy works were awesome. The price was $425 and the tank came with the sender installed. I really appreciate your help.

Best,
Michael
