Hello,
I am amidst a refurb of a 1982 170, my first major go at it is replacing the fuel tank and fill/vent lines. I have found the fill/vent line to be foamed down the hull wall, around corner and underneath the deck... my solution is to cut a new access hole just in front of center console to scratch out foam to be able to remove and replace lines... i was hoping to replace the original aluminum tank with a new plastic one. I am unable to find a plastic tank that can fit within my dimensions... mainly its the allowable height from coffin floor to bottom of fill line (which comes through top corner sidewall of coffin). This dimension is 6 3/4" of space, coffin floor to bottom of fill line. Total dimension of allowable space is... 58 1/2" x 20 1/4" x 6 3/4"... I have been referred to Luthers Welding of bristol, RI for construction of a new aluminum tank. However, does anyone know where i may be able to find a plastic tank to fit within these dimensions? the original tanks fill, fuel and vent taps were located directly center of tank, with a fuel level guage to be seen through a deck floor hole just in front of captains chair. Ill post photos, its timing out on me currently during upload.
