Explorer 250 Repower

I am considering re-powering my Explorer 250 with twin outboards. I was wondering what the max motor weight is for this hull.

I am looking at Suzuki 150 or 140 hp. The 150 is MUCH heavier and seems like the extra 20 hp is not worth the cost given the extra weight.

If you plan on insuring it you need to stay @ 300hp or less. How is the transom set up? I am not familiar with how the Euro are set up, whether there is a notch for 1 or 2 motors.

   I have twin Johnson 150s now, going to miss that 2 stroke power.

It is but I did just that and then some with my 91 WAC. I enjoy the hull so much that I re-powered new. The original factory installed two stroke still ran well but I wanted newer tech and and a four stroke. Never tried to justify the cost differential based on the hull's age but rather what I use it for. I certainly don't speak for most but I have had this hull for 12 years. The motor is 3 years old. I just like the way it does what it does. Boats are not monetary investments but rather food for your head. My thoughts anyway. :ScrChin:

Not sure this making it to post. I too have a 2000 Explorer 250 with a Johnson 250hp. I like the boat a lot and will repower too in at least maybe to years max. I want to go to a 300hp. Hoping more reviews be out and proven reliability on the new v8 Mercury. Biggest concern I have is the added weight with 4 strokes. The Suzuki 300 is an option too with their warranty but even heavier than the Mercury. I don’t want a boat to porpoise. Any advise with repowering to a 4 stroke for this boat as well would be appreciated? Or should I rebuilt the Johnson when time? Also single outboard I have.

My '04 placard says not to exceed 950 pounds for the outboards.
I know it's an old post. But information is best shared.
