Appreciate any advice on buying this 170
« on: January 23, 2021, 08:00:37 PM »
Hello to all,
I am new to this fantastic forum. I found it because I came across a 1976 17' Aquasport and was trying to research it. The owner said there are 2 soft spots on the deck but the transom is solid. After reading through some threads here on rebuilding, I have concluded there is a good chance it will need to be restored. Here are some pictures, I appreciate any advice from you experts. The asking price for the boat is $3K
Thank you!

Love my ‘76....I think 3K is a bit high with that SS trailer and 30+ year motor.  No harm in offering lower.

The boat looks to be in decent shape. The Merc "tower of power" is the perfect size engine for that boat - hope it is still running good. The engine size, meaning narrow, light is what these 170s were designed to have. That boat will still be self bailing, like it was designed. All the newer engines in the 90+ HP are wider, heavier and pushes the scuppers underwater. Being an 85 HP will be plenty of power for the boat.
$3k doesn't seem to be a bad starting price.
