222 ccp thruhull
« on: December 06, 2006, 05:38:27 PM »
Hi Guys,

I now have a 1986 222ccp and want to attach a baitwell pump at the thruhull pickup located on the starboard side of the hull near the stern.  I've done this on several different sized Ospreys but never a CCP.  The truhull with strainer is burried and I wonder if they are all located in approximately the same place on all of the boats.  No way to cut an access port hole directly above it either as far as I can tell.  Not a very good location.  You couldn't get your hand in there to turn off the lever on the seacock if you ever needed to.  I wanted to use a rule pump that would thread in close to the pickup because they draw a lot less than a self priming pump that could be located at a much more accessable point in the bilge.  Also, it sure is a pain to open the well since the cables for the motor are in the way. I still would love to use the existing factory well.  What have the rest of you guys with the ccps done to get the cables out of the way?  I've always had Osprey's but I really like the ccp's high freeboard and the great storage in the "coffin".  Seems to be a little drier than the Ospreys and I don't see that it draws much more water.  Now if I can just get this bait well thing worked out I'll be set.

Thanks for any help,

Keith

the whole livewell, raw water washdown system on that boat and its design is quite flawed and designed horribly. It doesn't function to ever allow replacement or maintenance, u just can't freakin get to anything! Your plan will have to include modifications and cutting your own access

On my 88' 222 CCP the intake in on the port side just behind and below the inspection cover, access in not to bad. Washdown pump is located on the transom inside the rear portside storage hold.
Beware the lolipop of mediocrity, lick it once and you will suck forever!

hey damnitb., if they switched things around in the 2 years they must have recognized some of the issues i mentioned, i have a 222 ccp 86', and that area and maintenance of vital parts has been a major pain in my business end for 14 years. I have great ideas for improving but have always fell short of time and $ for major mods which is needed for that year boat in my opinion
