First post. I searched but couldnt find my answer. I am repowering my 1999 215 dc. I am going from the Johnson 150 to a 250 Suzuki. The is a weight diff of +/- 140 pounds. I was considering going to a dual batterysetup and moving the batteries under the captains console or co-captain's console. I know the longer the run the more guage is needed and the other electrical concerns.
Really what I am after is :

If you have repowered is the weight poing to be significant considering the horsepower increase and is it effective to move the batteries forward (+/- 100 lbs)?

 :s_hi: okidoc - welcome aboard.
The max HP on that boat is 300hp. Do a little searching on what a 300 weighed back in the day and see if it is close to the weight of the 250 4S.

Thanks for the reply. The 2000 evinrude 250 was 516 the heaviest zuke was 620 ballpark. So the diff of 100#s. I dont know if the 2000 zuke was 2 or 4 stroke, but its irrelevant when discussing weight.

My current engine is 390 and the replacement zuke is 591. I think I will be in the safe range on the transom. I had considered this when I bought the motor. There were 300 hp options but thought for the sake of 5mph, I would err within the perfornance/design envelope  of the hull. I plan to use transom plates to reinforce the through holes. The 150 didnt have them, but they are easy to add when the bolts are out.

You want to go fast eh?

Well depending on the group size of your batteries, you can transfer a good deal of weight forward. My group 31s weight in at around 75lbs so that's 150 +/- lbs moved. I placed mine amidships on the centerline, in front of the fuel tank. No I have'nt blown up yet (but never say never). That required two things for that location.
1. Reducing the tank size.
2. Cutting an additional hatch for access.

I run 4/0 cables to a block in the old battery compartment and 4 gauge wires from there to the engine. 4/0 wiring does not fit well under the Yamaha cowling but the measured voltage drop while cranking is less than 3%. Works very well.

My oldest son and I were out trolling on Fathers Day and picked up two nice Gags. Coming in, we were running 39 mph at 5900 rpm (GPS measured). I'm guessing that if you set it up right, the 250 should see 50+/- mph. Not bad for a pregnant guppy.

Good Luck. :thumright:

I will only use my new power for good.

That sounds like a nice setup. Don't think I am ready to rip my deck up though.

Pregnant guppy lol
