1981 200XF - Leaky Windows
« on: May 12, 2020, 08:24:46 AM »

I'm currently bringing back to life a 1981 200XF, among the myriad of projects ongoing with her I've noticed the rubber gasket that seals in the windows has shrunk and become dry and brittle from UV exposure.
I would like to replace this gasket material with something new yet I have no idea where I could source the material from. Have any you guys dealt with this issue?

Yeah this is going to be tough. I doubt you'll find originals but may find gaskets that will work online somewhere.

It may not be the absolutely correct way, but could you use some clear silicone seal? lay in a bead screw the windows back in and let is spooge out. and whip away the extra?

That's exactly what I ended up doing, only I used black silicone because it matched. I then used black rustoleum around the entire windscreen. I plan to try 'rubber renew' we'll see if that does anything. I don't have high hopes, but it's worth a try.

I just had to do the same on my 246xf windows. It worked out and they stayed dry through the rain in CT this weekend.
