245 explorer twin 150’s question
« on: August 28, 2019, 03:53:53 PM »
Hi, was wondering what the 245 stands for on the explorer. On some websites it says it’s 26 feet and when I measure pullpit to motors it’s 29.5 feet. Also, I have someone that drops it in the water for me every season. Would like to buy a trailer. What size trailer do I need? I’m not sure how to measure the trailer and the boat for a used trailer. Thank you!

What year is the hull?

Mid 90's or newer?

I don't have a 99 catalog so we'll bracket your hull.

Your LOA = 26'-1" This is measured from the back of the transom (motor mount) to the front of the bow pulpit. This distance using the pulpit is allowed because the pulpit itself is molded into the hull not attached with fasteners such as mine.

245 refers to the center line of the HULL itself. This measurement is from the front of the hull iself (no pulpit) to the rear of the transom and - ....you guess it 24'-6" aka 24.5'

Spec sheet from a 98 catalog.

To add onto CB's post. The length is confusing and usually Marketing Math. If the anchor pulpit is part of the cap, it is considered in the LOA. If it is a bolt on, it's not. The Euro transom mixed up a lot of stuff too. I don't think including the motors was ever allowed but "to" the motors is the grey area. I would measure from the outside of the transom forward and see where 24.5' ends.  To make matters worse, not much later they came out with the 250 and nothing changed in the length from yours - i.e Marketing Math and new decals = new model.

In 2000 they re-labeled them as 250 EX. They list LOA (which remained the same  26'-1" but do not list center line lenght. Wanta bet it's 24'-6"? :ScrChin:

I just measured my trailer. From the center of the coupler to the end of the trailer is 22'6". My bunks extend past the trailer 22". They end very close to the end of the hull but don't impact the trim tabs. Center line measurement of my hull is 21'

Hopefully Wing time sees this thread and can give you the proper length. He too has a 245 EX.
