270 XF Stress Cracks/Spider Cracks
« on: June 08, 2019, 04:48:37 PM »
Hey guys, I just came from Inspecting a 1986 270XF and the deck has all these cracks all over it.... Buy it's solid, I'm big guy almost 285lbs and it was not flexing ... stringers look good... about to pull the trigger on it... are this cracks just from hard seas?

The decks are end grain balsa sandwiched between layers of glass. There is always some flex and these cracks are the result of the flex over the years.  This can be ground down and nonskid reapplied.  There are examples of this on this site.
The 2nd pic has me wondering what the round impression is/was under the grey gelcoat they put down. Also what is the fill marked? Water?

Appears someone relocated the deck fill. :ScrChin:

The only deck fill on the big girls is the waste pump out, on the cockpit floor.  I agree it looks like someone relocated it. The water and fuel deck fills are up on the gunwale. I have similar cracks just not as bad and they are only cosmetic.  Deck is strong and solid.
