Let us know how they work in the same weather situation.

After years of contemplation, I finally put the 115 on it.

Not sure about how it’s going to work out but I figured I’d try it.

Also got a new pup

Which meant new decking was needed. Then it started to snowball. Deck and liner prepped and painted for new Seadek like stuff, new hardware, shim the console with Starboard spacer, new rod holders, redo the bright work.....

I’m sure you’ll love it....I’ve got the same motor hung on my ‘76.  That Yam 2stroke looks clean or at least the exterior does.  What year?  I’m curious how the hull will handle with those few added inches of setback.

It’s an ‘03. I’ve been worried about the setback but it’s only temporary until my 90 is back together. Hopefully I’ll have some time this week to water test it and figure out what wheel to run. It’s still sitting up about 5” where the 90 has been running.

Getting closer to water test. Did the lower unit, changed plugs, flushed carbs, put muffs on it and…. No crank. Parts on order and it’s another day till it’ll see the water.

When I bought my rig the previous owner had a SS 4 blade 21" installed...slow hole-shot and topped out at 4500 rpms.  Trialed a SS 3 blade 17" which resulted in >5500 rpms.  Added 1 more inch pitch and went with a SS 3 blade Quicksilver 18"....sweet spot.

I started with an aluminum 21, topped out at 4800. I think my tach is a little wonky so I swapped it out last night with a new one. Didn’t really notice any bow rise and hit 43 mph in a hurry. I’ll play with it again this morning, maybe try a SS 4 blade 20 that’s been laying around.

Still messing around with the 21p, and motor height. But it’s running solid and not really worth fine tuning it much more.
5 1/2” Setback hasn’t had any negative ride that I noticed.
Scuppers are almost completely under ( about 1/4” more)  and water just about stays in the well without plugs in.

My guess is an 18” pitch will allow the engine to reach top end spec rpm same as mine, but even if you’re somewhere btwn 5000-5500 rpm, the mph will remain same....maybe +1 mph at best.  So what I’m saying is if you reach 5200-5300 then you’re pitch is dialed in...I wouldn’t drop another inch pitch for +200 rpms cause you won’t get more mph.

Before I dropped the motor an inch, I was turning almost 5400. Hard to be sure when exactly it blew out with trim going 43mph. Now it’s turning 4800, I’ll bring it up a 1/2” and call it good. Don’t need to be running wot anyway, cruising 32mph @4000rpm is plenty. The pup thinks 25 at 3200 is just fine.

Been too busy for much of anything, but managed to almost finish putting the foam decking down.

How are you doing with the foam decking … working out as expected/hoped? Considering doing the same as part of my rebuild but have seen drastically opposed feedback. Tx
