My new to me CCP 222
« on: November 06, 2006, 08:22:04 PM »
Found this one on Marco Island. I paid a little more than I wanted to but I'm happy with the deal because she's in pretty good shape.

Since I got her home to Mississippi I've  replaced a small section of floor that was soft from where the rigging was brought into the console but not sealed properly. Repainted the entire floor in a grey 2-part epoxy primer I salveged a teak swim platform from an old Boston Whaler that fit and looks nice on the back of the 222, purchased a Garmin 498 and a nice Richie flush mount compase. I took out the swing back seat and will put a leaning post in. Flushed the fuel tank and removed to oiling system from the Merc (horn kept sounding) and then decarbed the motor. Mounted my Standard Horizon radio and a digital antenna to the console railing, replaced all the nav lights with new units, installed a SS Vengence prop. All new Teleflex Lido white face gauges (speedo, rpm, trim, volt, water pressure, fuel). Minor rewiring, toggle boots.

Before sping I will remove the cable steering and install a teleflex SeaStar steering system, While I was mounting the transducer I drilled the holes and the transom is wet but solid. I'm drying out as best I can and will reseal in a few weeks. With the 99' 200EFI Merc she runs out at 47mph according to the GPS @5500rpm so sometime in the future a 250hp motor will be considered but Hey, she's paid for like she sits. I hate the thought of floating a loan for new power.

Damn, I was gonna say "Don't let ddd see this!!" but I was too slow.
Nice looking boat - sounds like you've had her for a while though.  Any pix of her dressed out?

I've had it about a month now. waiting for Minolta to send my camera back from a service issue. These pics were taken on Marco Island before I bought it. From three examples I've seen the 1988 and on models did not have a coffin box, The 1987 model had a box. The latest model CCP 222 I've seen was a 1990 or 91 and I think those were the the last year they were made but I'm not sure The live well is in the floor and is as large as the coffin box. The console has a seat in the front and a bait well below the seat. The floor is original (no brakets for a coffin box). I have not filled it up with fuel yet so I'm not sure of the tank capacity but I'm hoping the 85gls was not changed to accomodate the live well. The motor well is different than earlier models as well. Much more room but I do miss a coffin box not being on the later models because I liked the look.

rick definately knows what i like and dislike.Besides the storage and platform of love, the box w/ a cushion makes other activities fun and a comfortable place to sit even at high speed. If splashwell is different then 87's, hope they made better access

Well, i guess I've been kind of busy over the winter. It was almost 80 here today (warmest day yet)so it's time to get back in the water starting next weekend. I'm going to make a run to the coast and set my crab traps and try for a few specks and reds.
I've made a few improvements on the CCP since I got it. Fixed the soft spot on the floor (it was only the size of a dinner plate) that kinda bugged me. Primed the deck with a high build epoxy then brushed a two part poly between the textures and covered the textured parts with a white DuraBak. Got my antenna's mounted (Digital), VHF mounted, added a Richie compass, Garmin 498, new wash down system (Johnson), Teleflex Sea Star hydraulic steering, 6x9 speakers, new nav lights, led cockpit lighting, New leaning post, new gauges, new bimini to mounts(quick disconnect), Raybud scuppers and a few other things that don't come to mind right now. i did re-do the graphics on the motor as well. I still have to mount a stereo receiver in and two more speakers. I also have a nice piece of black 1/4" starboard to replace the panel under the steering wheel and throttle.  Some where in the near future I'm going to hang a Merc 250XS on the back, but before or as that happens I will replace the transom and repaint the entire boat. Here are a few pics of my work in progress.

Badger, she looks beautiful!  Take your camera with you when you get her in the water.  Like to see her working the traps.

Damnitbadger,

How do you like your 200 EFI? Looking to power my boat and was wodering on the MERC EFI. Those CCP's are sharp looking boats.  I like their lines.

Awesome, aweseome, awesome boat and great pics!, thanks for sharing.  I especially like the way the docklines/ropes are hung on the inside of the gunwales.
