Engine Spacing 245 Osprey Single to Twin
« on: May 08, 2018, 12:35:27 PM »
Okay, here we go with this project!
Can someone who has a twin engine 245 Osprey or Explorer please give me the measurement center line to center line of the motors? I finally sold my old Shamrock and can now give myself permission to start on my 245 Osprey. I have completed the transom build up (re-powering from single to twins) and I am getting ready to drill holes to mount motors. I know there are a few threads out there on this but I could not confirm the spread on the motors (it should be 27" or 28" I think). If the bracket extended all the way as the running surface of the boat then the math would be easy. I started thinking about the water flow off the back of the boat and figured I better get as close to factory as possible (it is possible I am overthinking).

By the way I feel pretty confident that my glass work is stout enough to hold my motors (lots of 1708 and Coosa) however I am actually going to mount my motors on static jack plates to keep my bolts low in the transom and out of my repair area, this is a dual function idea I had because of the extra setback from the jack plates I would like to eliminate the splash well and create a full platform across the back of the boat (I'm thinking cooler storage/dive tank storage). I am probably overthinking this as well but would like to know thoughts on that. If I don't like the jack plates I can always just hang the motors directly off the transom? I also know that I would not be able to tilt my motors all the way up with cooler on the platform but that wouldn't bother me too much.

I am pretty excited to get this girl rigged up!

Dug this up. Read the whole thread. There is a mention to center line spacing and the "continuous wave"  twin engine mounting link may be helpful.

Here's another that mentions 27"

Last one is the actual mounting.

Good luck. :thumright:

Thanks guys, I will get some pics up pronto! Ill probably go with 27" and then run a straight edge off the hull to see where the Cavitation plate will hit. the Jackplates allow for some adjustment too. That "continuous wave" link was a good one, very educational. Hope to have motors mounted by the end of the week.

BTW I have taken extensive pictures so I will post a new thread on the whole process when I get done. Hopefully it will be a thread of "how to build up the transom" instead of how NOT to......
