Feeling like a wuss/fuel line to barb on tank 175
« on: April 24, 2018, 01:01:50 PM »
Yeah.. I’m feeling that way. Was checking for obstructions decided to cut off a little off both ends of
The fuel line. The stern end was easy. Tank side , not so much. Cut it off the barb tank side. Blew through it, no obstruction. Now , cant get it on. Should i just put some KY on the inside of that hose and barb? The fuel is the coast guard / fire alchohol 3/8 isd and looks great on the inside despite 20 yrs old. Original problem was getting fuel to the bulb to prime motor. I hate using deck tanks but my only solution till i get that 33 gallon poly tank working. Thanks in advance for your help. Especially you smart guys. You know who you are.

Just use some 2 stroke oil on the hose and fitting, try a rotating side to side motion and she should crawl up the barb but regardless how good the hose looks its old and brittle which is why it wont go on. I would replace it. Put the KY back in the nightstand where it belongs.

There may be a better way, but I have had good luck with a little bit of soapy water on a hose fitting or two, not to mention putting surgical tubing on a wrist rocket. Once it dries, it is is not going anywhere.

If the fuel line is 20 years old, you may be well ahead just replacing it with new line.  The old has likely stiffened with age, and that may be part of the issue you're having getting it on the fitting.  Additionally newer lines are resistant to ethanol.
