Fish Box Drain Patch- Through Hull
« on: February 18, 2018, 12:19:29 PM »
Yesterday I took the boat out (200 Osprey) and took my step father fishing for his birthday. Unfortunately while 6 miles out in the gulf I noticed that e had started taking on a bit more water than I was comfortable with. Kicked on the oversized 1200 gph bilge that i had installed and it started flowing pretty heavy. I decided to head back in an beached it after the bilge ran the whole 6 miles in and for another 10 minutes after beaching it it was drained. The PVC fitting for the fish box drain had broken off. My question is where is the access to replace fitting which I cant seem to find orrrrrr how do i patch the hull to eliminate this possibility. I have redone the boat and know how to do the resin work but im guessing i will need to lay up some glass over the hole also? It about an inch in diameter

Yeah that is always scary.  ::o:
You may have to cut a pie hole into the side of the fish box or in the face of the casting deck to get access.  It's easier to replace the fitting than patch the hole.

We got pretty lucky but I was telling my wife one wrong move or bad judgement couldve ended much worse. happy it panned out and very happy with the boat to be able to handle that much water and still float well. The issue i have is that i dont have access on the inside. But its recommended I replace the through hull because its easier. Id have to cut an access hatch to reach it. with that being said I suppose the glasswork id have to cut a hatch to repair from inside also ....hmmm

Yes, the simplest, best fix.  Is to replace the through hull.  When you do, use bronze, stainless or at the least marelon.  Use high quality hose and double clamp everything.  You will need to cut a hole for a pie eye hatch, but when you are done, you will have thirty year fix.

Appreciate the insight everyone. Ill order a stainless through hole and figure out the access hatch. Do that and replace my prop soon on the ol 115. Thanks for the insight.
