1986 29tm repower

Hi All! I’m on my 3rd season with the 29. I have 1995 hours on original 270 crusaders and it’s time for an upgrade. Those bad boys are tired! 16 mph at 3600 rpms is killing me in fuel! I’m looking for about a 21-23mph cruise if possible. A friend has 6.2 mercruisers with fuel injection complete with everything for 5grand. They have 300 hours on them. What do you guys think? I had to switch my 19 inch 4 blade props for 18 3 blades for this passed season just to get her moving. I love the boat and will be keeping it for a while so i want to do it right. Open to suggestions. Thank you, James

Do you have the boat propped right? i have 18x19 3 blades getting me 21mph @3250rpm. 1500 hrs. Hows the compression look? is it 5 grand each or total?

I'd jump on those fuel injected motors.

My props are 17 3/4x19. Been to Atlantic prop in Edison several times to get it decent. 21@3250 is quite impressive. It is 5 grand for the pair but one needs a longblock. Im considering it big time. One would be new and the other has 300 hours. Also i just had the boat transferred to my house this passed Saturday. What a pain in the neck to get that top half of the tower off!

I don't know if you solved your problems but since I am new to this site and have an 86 290 Tournament Master since 1994 with twin 270s also. I had lots of problems with them so instead of repowering with gas I went with 230 bourse power yanmar diesels. It was pricey but I run charters. Crouse at 22 knots wide open at 29knots

Joe that’s awesome. I wish I had the coin for yanmars. We built new vortex motors and we cruise 18mph @ 2800 and wot 32. Very happy with it now. Completely different boat. Looking to add autopilot next
