Osprey 225 Livewell Pump Original location
« on: August 27, 2017, 07:37:47 PM »
Looking for the original location of the livewell pump on an Osprey 225. Based on the research, the impeller needs to be below the water line (please correct me if I am wrong). PO put last pump well above the water line and I would like to get it to a better place. Also, would like recommendations on a pump that would be closer to OEM. I picked up a pump at Academy, but reading that those may not be the best idea. Thanks in advance for the assistance.

Because I had 2 hours in the airport (delayed flight out of DFW because of the hurricane) I did more research and I wanted to post back here with what I found. It appears that the original live well/wash down pump in the Osprey 225 was a diaphram-type pump. These are self-priming and can be above the water line. The new pumps are centrifugal, cannot be mounted above the waterline, and are not self priming. This means they have to be mounted in the bottom of the boat, which is next to impossible. As best as I can tell, the replacement pump for the 225 is the Shurflo Blaster II. It's a self-priming pump and will mount in the transom access location of the OEM pump.

As you found out the original pump was a diaphragm type pump and was mounted up above the water line.  This was handy in case you needed to clean out the raw water screen you didn't have to close the seacock.  A centrifugal type could be used and typically would be mounted directly to the top of the seacock.  The only way you can do this is if you do the "fishbox" Mod.  Sooner or later you will have to do this mod anyways.
