Bill of Materials with stringers and bulk heads
« on: August 05, 2017, 10:11:41 AM »
I have a 1973 19 6 I am currently putting together my BOM sheet for this restoration and was curious if any one can recommend me how many bulk heads are needed in my layout. Any information is greatly appreciated.

Cool rendering!  Maybe someone will chime in with an authoritative answer.  I think most people place bulkheads to achieve the number of below deck compartments they require, one of those being for the fuel tank.

The original structure for the 196 was just the two longitudinal stringers and no bulkheads, so any bulkheads add structure. Are you planning on foaming in the area outside of the stringers?  If so, you won't need all those bulkheads outside of the stringers.  My stringers on my 200CCP were in good shape, but I added 4 bulkheads down the center of the hull and one pair at the aft end of the outer area to seal off the foam from the bilge.

I just did bulkheads where floor seams would be. I did three.
If you are doing a one piece floor not sure you need any.

Thank you mshugg excellent build ! I am sure I will foam outside the stringers for sound purposes, I will definitely eliminate majority bulkheads as well, i sure it will save me some $.

I appreciate you input northfolk, I am planing to have floor storage as well.

Putting bulkheads every 15" - 24" along the outside for deck support is a good idea. As mentioned above, the under deck usage dictates bulkheads in the middle.  Plan on keeping your gas tank somewhere near the COG of the boat (where it is currently) and of course you'll need a bulkhead on each end.
