Am I cored or not cored?

I am thinking of mounting my new Lowrance Hook 7 transducer in my bilge so that it shoots thru hull, so I want to make sure that I am not a cored hull. My boat is a 1989 Osprey 175. Am I good to go?

I have not seen a cored Hialeah hull.

I'd say no. It's solid fiberglass.

Thank you Bob.  I appreciate the answer, although after reading some additional information I think that I will just stick it on the transom in order to maximize the performance of the transducer.

I believe that most '80's vintage hulls had a piece of plywood in the hull under the rear deck plate, where the bilge pump is normally mounted.

Every one I've seen has that mount fixed to the hull surface, not cored within the hull itself.

It’s been about 30 years since I worked as a boat rigger at an Aquasport dealer, so my memory of “the fleet at large” is starting to get a bit fuzzy and the features on the Aquasports may be blending in with some of the features on the Makos, Grady’s, Sea Rays & other boats that I also worked on back then.  I remember that some boats had a raised patch in the bilge that was basically a square of plywood that had one or two layers of glass over it.  That patch was usually there so that you had an area that would take a screw, for mounting things like a bilge pump & float switch.  That is probably consistent with what you are describing.  I don’t specifically remember for sure if that was how all the Aquasports were or not. 

The 86 Aquasport that I have now, has flat glass in the bilge, with wood under the area below the pie hatch in front of the motor.  I don’t have a hump in there.  The glass on top of the wood is less than 1/4" thick.  The wood is not in the center of the glass sandwich.  I haven’t noticed any signs that the glass in my current boat was repaired or modified in that area. 

I do remember that a little variation from boat to boat was not an uncommon thing when those boats were new.  Not all details were always the same, even within a single batch of boats that all arrived on the same day in the same truck load.  Perhaps some boats had more of a hump than others???  Perhaps that area of the boat was hand-laid & varied a bit in detail, depending on which Hialeah craftsman was working that particular day???

Please let me know if what you are talking about is different from what I just described.

I have the same exact boat.  Hull is not cored, but yes there is a wood area for bilge pump right along the keel in stern. 

I stuck some starboard to my transom with 4200 and I use that as a transducer mounting plate so I can adjust the location and not worry about the amount of holes I'm drilling.  I change it somewhat often, still haven't found the right spot for a Side Imaging ducer on the 175 where it gets a reading on both sides or gets a good reading at high speed, or doesn't create a rooster tail.
