Battery Location: 175, & Other Questions

Hello all. I have a new to me 88 170osprey that I would like to install a TM on. Just looking for an update on how/if the wire were able to be run up from the console without going back through the rigging gutter. I did some research and it seems that there is a way forward from the console on some of the larger models but so far it seemed inconclusive on the 170/175.  Nice to be here I will post some pics of the old rig soon.

So by the sound of that it is possible to run the cable more or less straight from the console over the top of the gas tank and up to the starboard hatch to pull up to the bow hatch. Is this correct??

More or less.  So long as your wording "over the top of gas tank" implies the battery cables have absolutely no interaction with the fuel tank.

So I poked around a bit more today and I really see no way I would be able to snake #6 cable up from under the console forward to the starboard access hatch. My console is factory I believe and there is a hatch under there to acces the gas tank pick up hoses but for me to go forward from there I would be laying right on top of the gas tank which seems like probably not the best idea. See pic. Should I be thinking about this a different way?

You've kinda lost me bud, sorry.  I'm confused as to why the fuel tank, or anything below deck, has anything to do with running battery cables from under the console up the bow hatch.  Take a look, or take another look, at the thread link I previously provided.  On that thread you'll discover the details of how I went about running battery cable (24v TM) from console to bow.

Reviving this thread from a couple years ago as I have an update which some others may find useful. 

You can definitely route the TM wires from console straight forward to the bow, without going back to the stern via the rigging channel then up the gunnels.  I did this.  It's a really really tight squeeze with the wires adjacent to fuel fill hose.

I also cut out the livewell aft of my console and use this for storage of my TM batteries, similar to the way boatnamesue's is setup.  It wasn't plumbed, and I didn't like the idea of running a raw water hose from the pickup in my stern to the console, over the gas tank, and adjacent to all my batteries.  Too much potential for badness.

See pictures for reference.  I have a little tidying up to do in terms of wire fastening but you get the idea.

Here's a picture of the finished product.  I put together a battery compartment/charging station on my 175.  I used a grinder to cut out the livewell and widen the opening a bit.  I also epoxied a board on my deck inside console to mount the batteries, and Keep them all the way in the front of the console.  On the plus side, this give me a lot more storage space in the console now.  Silly little project but it keeps me out of trouble.

Nice. Convenient that you had enough room above the batts to hang the charger.
