Hi new to sight, I just purchased a 1985 19.6 A S. It has a 1990 johnson 150 h.p.
I see most 19.6 matched with 115 h.p... I Don't need crazy hull speed. My Question is I Have A C85 Yamaha outboard that I'm considering putting on. Is This grossly under powered with this Hull? Love that motor but with 12 degree dead rise and hull weight...un sure...
2 Question the center hatch on bow is a live well. previous owner claimed he didn't know how to use. My previous flats boat had a on valve and a tip to control water flow. Please help....
Thank you in advance....
Welcome aboard. You will get a number of varying responses to your first question, none will be right and none will be wrong. The hp of engine you have on your 19-6 depends on what you do with the boat. Since you mentioned a live well, I assume you intend to use the boat for fishing. If so, this is a major contributing factor on deciding the hp of engine. Running with a full live well, fishing gear, cast net, etc., all increases the hull load.
I believe your model year 19-6 max hp rated is 185. Personally I think the 150hp you've got on there now is perfect, the 115hp would struggle with a fully loaded boat, especially if its a four stroke 115hp. I have a 2 stroke 115hp on my 170 and its the perfect hp for the hull because of how I use the boat (fishing). The 85hp you're considering will get your boat to where you want it to go, don't get me wrong. It's just that it's hp is less than half of the max rated hp. Meaning, the boat will not perform up to its optimal performance capabilities.
