1990 Evinrude 88 SPL Cowling restoration
« on: February 25, 2017, 01:05:52 PM »
So I decided to restore my Cowling  myself since the estimates I got were pretty high even if I did all the prep work.  After one failed attempt due to poor prep work I decided to go at it the right way.  I ended up using paint stripper to get all the way down to the original material.  Did a lot of fairing then sanded from 220 up to 400 wet sanding.  Right now I have four coats of self etching primer on her..  getting the original metallic charcoal Evinrude paint and going to put a few coats of that to finish her off.  Haven't decided what way to go with decals yet.

Nice work - they say it's all in the prep.
