ID of a so called 19 Aquasport early 1980's?
« on: February 09, 2017, 12:15:17 PM »
Ok so first post. I appreciate Rick letting me in to yawl's great neighborhood family! Wanted to introduce myself first but wondering whether I just reply to the link as I don't see start a new thread there.

On to my question, I've found a 19 something on CL and the guy with it says it's an early '80's he thinks and advertising it as a 19 I think it's a 19.6? Supposedly has a new fuel tank, good transom ;), couple soft spots in the deck, but after looking at pics and threads till my eyes are bulging out I decided if you guys could take a guess on exactly what model this is? I only have this one pic to go by. I have a 2000 Johnson 150HP Ocean Runner to put on it and can't wait to get her home monday.

Thanks in advance.

Welcome aboard JW!!  Look on the outside of the transom on one of the sides and you'll see a stamp in the gelcoat that has letters and numbers. The last 2 digits are the year.

Thanks RcikK and BA. I should have mentioned it's 300 miles away and hard enough to get the man on the phone or answer text messages. Marine outfitter store, outboard dealer claims it's the Boss' boat he decided against redoing it. I'm down his way this weekend with a 50 mile detour Monday morning going to swing by and bring it home if it as expected. Thanks again, glad to be here.

Turns out she was a 1976. I brought her on home last night. 400 mile trip was touch and go. When I got there trailer that was supposedly road ready had the equalizer on both sides rusted completely out. Luckily I had my little welder with me and wound up tacking the torque bars (?) to the trailer frame to hold the rusty springs in place, slapped some new bearings in and off I went. Home @ midnight and off to work for 0400 this morning. Long story short I bought myself a Birthday Present/Project  :a0008:.

Console is just sitting in there not bolted new tank installed 2 years ago, not many holes that weren't sealed in deck but it does have a 2' foot by maybe 8" soft spot on left side close to liner midship and a small one behind tank box lid. Transom sounds good but does have some paint blisters STBD side outboard. Thought I'd post a couple pics and start a new thread when I cut the deck out to see how little I can get away with to get her rolling for this season.

Also tips on links to deck replacement. I've been studying all the threads but would love recommendations.

Yup she is a 70's 19-6. Can tell by the green rubrail and deck color.  The blisters on the transom is not uncommon for those year hulls.  Not sure what causes it but its only cosmetic.

As for the deck there are a bunch of options.  Some members raise the deck up an inch or so. (up to the lip you see an inch or two above the deck on the inwales is typical).  Core material is the big choice.  Wood is fine, but some like to upgrade to a composite board of some type. While you have the deck up that is a good time to check the stringers and the foam inside them.

As for the transom what you do there depends on how you plan on using the boat.  You can leave it as is, raise it a bit so you can use 25" shaft motor, or enclose it entirely and mount the motor on a bracket or something.

Nice looking hull though.  Should make a great project.

Every blistered hull I've ever seen has been bottom painted. Even if its up the sides and not where you would expect blisters on the bottom from water osmosis. Just an observation but I've watched this for years.
