where to get a fuel tank

hi guys!!  long time no post. 

boat has been a little neglected the past year/year.5.  we moved and just been dealing with life and a seriously crazy 2 year old boy.  trying to get everything back in shape again.  i need a fuel tank.  its a 87 200 osprey. 

i know what dimensions i need from searching other posts.  my question is, is there an aftermarket poly tank like a moeller that will fit?  i dont care if its smaller but 40 gallon min.  i really dont have 5-600 for a custom tank.  i've been calling marine connection every now and then for a couple months and they never get anything that size.  the surplus store in sarasota wanted entirely too much money and the tank was 10" high.  dont think that will fit anyway.

any suggestions or anyone have a tank in usable condition laying around?  willing to drive a little bit.

Yeah I've been calling them every now and then.  They never have anything that meets all the criteria or smaller.  Always one dimension that will be too big.

 I ordered my tanks from trailer parts depot Robbing Ronnie's selection has been crap lately there's a place over on the west coast. That had a good selection but I haven't been over there yet

I think you have to go there to look at and measure them yourself. They don't have a inventory list. Also you need to see if the vent and fill locations are in the right spot.

thanks for the link.  ill ask him about measurements.  found a couple other here yesterday ill be calling about also.

tank cap will be recored as well so not too worried about location.  just something that fits that i can secure.  and everything is going to be double clamped and double checked by 5 people before i put that cap back on...i dont plan on removing it again.  floor is good enough to get several more years out of.  stringers are dry.  transom is a couple years old.  no reason to tear into this one for a while longer.

and agreed about going up there.  i think i might grab my tape and head up this saturday.  they gotta something that will work.  ill take anything 40 gal or larger.

Call Phil at Alloy Metal Works and see what he would charge to make you one - it might be less than you think and you will get exactly what you want...

And he usually turns orders around in one week.

I got two from Alloy Metal Works. They are great! I do have an extra one that did not fit. It measures 59.5 x 21.5 x 7 is a little over 35 gallons. It's brand new. Shoot me an offer and if you are in the east coast I may be able to take it to you.

I'm in Jupiter, Fl.  I really wouldnt know what your tank is worth.  i know Marine Connection charges $6 a gallon for their aluminum tanks.  i guess if i decided that would be my offer?  how thick is the aluminum?

 think it would be too small?  i'm running a 2 stroke 150 merc.  Trolling for several hours, drifting with the motor idling and running in to the ramp and back to the sandbar i probably used 25-30 gallons.  those trips dont happen often though.  Im usually putting around the intercoastal with several other people on the boat. 

with Alloy Metal Works, even if they give a great price, shipping would kill it, no?

I'd give it you for $200 even if you decide yo want it. Yes, I bought for $300 and the shipping was $150 (freight). Still not a bad price. I run a 115 Yamaha 2 stroke, I got about once every couple of weeks and don't go far. I fill it up every two months. Let me know! Hi I've been getting info from this site however this is my first posting (sorry! great site for me). I'm in the middle of a 1978 22-2 semi-rebuild for use as a commercial clam boat in South Jersey, nothing fancy just safe and strong. I removed  the original 60 or so gallon aluminum tank for replacement (good thing, some small holes with many more to come after powerwashing ), not wanting to spend a bundle on a new custom aluminum, I recently purchased a new leftover Moeller 45 gallon poly tank, FT4513, from Great Lakes Skipper. The tank was a little less capacity than I would have liked but more than enough for the inshore fishery and the price was right, I paid $199.95 plus shipping total $301.01. I didn't see it listed on their website any more but did see it listed on ebay by them for $100.00 more, still not a bad price if it works. I am also in the process of switching out the pickup and vent fitting on the tank so that it will draw from the rear of the tank, the pickup in the front concerns me on such a long shallow tank when running at an angle or on a plane with a lower fuel level in the tank.  Hope this helps, Tom.
