Hello everyone. After finding this site and seeing all the great people on here and how willing everyone is to help, it has given me great hope to complete my boat. I finally have time to get to work on a project i bought 2 years ago. At first it was suppose to be just put a fuel tank in and glass the floor and go but as usual things are never that easy. I started to open up the floor yesterday and could not believe how soaked the floor was. I had some soft spots but had no idea it was that bad. So let the fun begin! Ill post some pictures very soon.

For the most part i have the entire floor up minus one little corner.


With that being said i might have made a little mistake and not sure of a proper way of fixing it. While taking the floor up i cut the bottom lip of the gunnel that supports the floor. What are some ideas to get that back in order?

Stringers look to be in great shape.  Drill a little hole a 1/2" above the hull in the side of the inward side of the stringer, in the back of the boat, and see if water comes out of either of them. Be careful not to got through the hull bottom.

A big DOH. I would assume a ledge would be a lot stronger then just running the seam to the gunnel and glassing into it. The stringers I'll check for water.

I'm not sure how the 17 sits in the water. But if you raise your stringers you can sit your new floor on top of the lip that remains. That's how I'm doing my 22. For me
it was a matter of building up the stringers an 1 1/2".

You can also glue a 1x1 ledger around the perimeter. You have plenty of vertical space on the liner sides to do that. Are you planning on raising the floor?

I need to raise my floor by about " to clear my tank. I assume someone else raised this floor once before?

It does look like someone put a 1x on top of the stringers all the way around.  What happened to the section on the port aft stringer section?
You want to raise it by how much?  Are you replacing the tank? Building a bigger one?

When I was taking the floor up I noticed it was rotted on top of the stringer. I cut back some of the board to see where rot stopped. I plan to raise the floor up about an inch to clear my tank that I have. I do plan to use my tank I have now. Nothing is wrong with it so I'll slap it in. Now my question is can I build up my stringers with a 2 by 6 and glass it in?

As long as you seal the wood real well you should be fine.

Thank you for answering all my questions so far. I'm a little new to boat building and rather know its getting done the right way.

I'm in the middle of having my shop built so working outside has been a little bit of an issue. New jersey has had nothing but rain the last few days so I've been stuck working in small spaces with heat. The console is not the original console for the boat and was a little wide. I decided to cut it down some. Hopefully by the end of tomorrow ill have all the holes filled and the top done.

Mother nature still has not been very nice here. I can deal with the cold but the wind was been crazy. Some more inside work building a couple stands for my motors.
