1997 Aquasport Explorer 225 Fuel Tank

I am trying to find the demension on the fuel tank I have in my 1997 Aquasport 225 Explorer.

The model is listed is a Moeller FT10201 (102Gal)

The reason is, I am wanting to replace the fuel sender, and would like to get the reed / switching type, and would like to know what depth the tank is before having to go in and take out the old sender so i can do all the work at once.

I have reached out to Moeller and have not heard back from them.

Any information would be greatly appreciated

The tank should be about the same depth as the 245 Ospprey/ Exlporer

Thanks for the info, however, the tank in the drawing is a 50 gallon, but mine is a 102 gallon

In searching old threads I came up with a post that listed the dimensional depth of the 102 gal tank from Moeller at 15.5". In checking with the site, I see they no longer carry this model so.....

I originally found that depth on the Moeller site that had cut sheets for the different models so I feel comfortable with it but....
In the same thread I suggest that while it was a Moeller dimension, the best way to be sure is to remove the old sender and do an actual measure.

Since you are trying to avoid that, 15.5" is the best I can do.

Do you feel the Moeller reed switching time sending unit is that much more accurate or reliable then say one like this?

IMHO,
Neither switch will be as accurate as a "flow scan" type metering system but...

The reed type doesn't "bounce" as much as the arm float so "gauge bounce" is greatly reduced and since the reed type has no exposed openings to allow fuel vapor/splash to corrode the inner rheostat, is a more durable switch.

You can spend a little time and measure your tank depth, compute the quantity at the different levels and transfer to the switch. Then with the switch wired outside the tank, slide the float up and down and create a spreadsheet on the two relationships and the gauge at the helm. I did this on my current boat just for a "quick glance" indicator (Yamaha digital bar type gauge) as I run a Flo Scan unit.

I had the EP-60R flow scans on my older engines which worked very well and very accurate, I just recently repowered with new twin 2015 engines connected via NMEA 2000, so I get flow rate, fuel burned, distance to empty, etc.. and is accurate within a gallon

I also have the Lowrance / Navico fluid level sensor that connects to the fuel tank sending unit, and has up to a 5 point calibration that can be done for irregular tanks that will make it much more accurate and linear than an analog gauge. I do still have an analog gauge as well going thru a DPDT switch for backup haha

I agree on accuracy in using the NMEA 2000 fuel burn rate, however, if there is an issue with the tank, leaking, or not completely full, (maybe someone decided to borrow some fuel without me knowing) etc,, then the read out on the engines will not do much good ;)

The main reason for the fuel gauge it self is just a cross reference and to let me know the approx tank level, but for the most part I rely strictly on the NMEA connections to the engines, they are within a gallon.

By the way, I did get out to measure the tank today, it is 18" deep, so I think I am going to go with a WEMA 16 1/2" or 17" sender. They say 1" less for poly tanks due to flex
