Fuel Tank Parallel with Deck or Parallel with Chine
« on: September 01, 2016, 06:30:28 AM »
This question is prompted by this Aquasport marketing material that shows the tank parallel with the chine:  http://www.classicaquasport.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=13825&title=200ccp-back-page&cat=543

It would make more sense to me to install the fuel tank level with the deck because that would mean that the tank would slope toward the rear and the pick-up.  If it's level with the chine, wouldn't it slope toward the front when off plane?  I could be overthinking this, and it could be that the drawing in the Aquasport brochure is based on the actual design drawings, and accurately reflects the boat floating on it's lines.

probably just a part of the drawing, in my 22-2 osprey, the tank  is parallel/level with the deck of the boat.

I can only speak for my particular boat, Osprey 175, but with the boat on the trailer, eyeball level, 8 gallons of gas in a 32 gallon tank there was no gas at the pickup. I would have cranked until the battery melted if Fitzz hadn't pointed out that I was probably out of gas. I added another 10 gals and she fired right up.

I just measured the tank coffin that I tore out of my boat.  No question about it, it was 3 3/4" deeper in front than at the rear.  Now, the question is: do I replicate angle or instal level with deck?
