Comparative Pricing for 22-2 Flatback
« on: July 23, 2016, 02:59:49 PM »
I'm always on craigslist prowling for an AS gem.  Today I came across two 22-2 flatback's, both of which have been restored.  I was shocked to see the large difference in asking prices.  Thought it would be worth discussing.  Below you'll find links to both boats.

http://fortmyers.craigslist.org/lee/boa/5679001341.html

Although the top link has a "new" bigger engine than the bottom link and what I read to be newer electronics/gauges, we're seeing a $53,000 difference in asking price.  What on this $77k boat would justify it being $53k more than the $24k boat?  My guess is the $77k boat is way overpriced and the $24 is a little underpriced.  Your thoughts?

The Ft. Meyers boat isn't even a flat back but a 12 degree V and is listed as a 1976 so by the date couldn't be a flat back if it wanted to be. Last year for the flat back was 1971 so this guy doesn't know what he has or is trying to mis- represent what he has to try to bring more money. I personally think the 12 degree V was a far superior boat in everyway to the flatback, but there is a niche market that loves them. As for the $77k flatty if you get one restored at a top shop, a repower and a new trailer you can easily get to $60k, that one is very nice but bare bones. This by no means that is what the boat is worth, it's just what he has in it. There is no standard for a restored boat value other than what the market is willing to pay. To me the value is in the documentation of exactly what has been done with pictures and narrative of the build from day one.

I agree with Farley  :thumleft: The 2nd (see the last 2 pics for the "flat" back - or lack of one) one says a porta-potti will fit in the console - hmmm, how would someone use it.  The console ain't that big.

You got that right. No harm in asking for big $$ if someone will pay for it.  And thanks for replying with detail.

Yacht tender versus fishing rig...

77 isnt that bad considering what these "bay boats" cost these days. And youve actually got a bow for offshore!      Still trying to figure out what a "deluxe anchor" is...

(Ive been offered 35 for mine. Would take it if i wanted to be boatless haha)

as chris said, yacht tender, vs fishing rig. i rebuilt my flatback as a fishing rig, something you dont have to worry about scratching or dinging up. ive been offered 32k for mine before newer 4 stroke, and new i-pilot trolling motor.. i'd take  no less than 35k for mine, it would be hard for me to want to sell though.

I have seen the first boat (Sarasota) in person.  I saw it when it was near completion.  It looked pretty good in my opinion.  I don't have any experience in rebuilds though and I did not see below the deck.  Allen, the builder and seller, told me that he spent a lot of time on this one.  Like Fitz said previously, that may be why the price is on the higher end.  I see he has come down in price and I'm sure he will have to again if there is little interest.  Allen just rebuilt my buddy's transom on his 80's Mako and that turned out awesome.
