1972 19'6" Rebuild

This is my 196 i got about a year ago, repowered and ran it until now... I was in a tournament a few weeks ago and noticed a fairly substantial leak and decided it was finally time to do the rebuild since i knew the transom was on its way, little did i know what i got myself into... the stringers had completely detached from the hull except for the 4' section in the stern
i dont have any of the rebuild photos on my laptop yet but im at the point now where the stringers are completely out and its time for the transom, im scratching my head... ive been following lilrichard thread and plan on doing my transom the same way but i cant figure how to get the old wood out without damaging the outermost glass layer (sorry for the terrible photo, this is the only one i have thats a small enough file size)

Welcome aboard Dane
If you "attach" pics you'll be limited by file size. The best way to post pics is to use your free gallery here or a another hosting site, like photo bucket.
If you use your gallery here it'll size your full size pics to the right size to post them here and then we can see what is going on in your boat and help you with your rebuild.
Follow the simple instructions in this tutorial to get your pics to your gallery and then into your posts.

As for removing the transom core, try an air chisel - works great.

Yep. Ricks right. Pliers, hammer, chisel, carbide wood grinding/shaping wheel. Hours, blood, sweat... I used a hammer, pry bar, spud bar, pliers, and went through two grinders.
