You're going through the exact same thing I did.  Now's a good time to scruff up the hull and lam a layer or two of 1708 on the hullsides to stiffen it up.  You'll be glad you did.

Thanks for the suggestion Rick,  I've been debating with myself on what is overkill vs what is merely kill.  I want the boat to be strong, but it doesn't take long for a bit more glass here and a bit more there to add up to an extra 500 pounds or more.

I was picking up some supplies from Joel Shine (member), and asked him about adding extra glass to the hull sides.  He had a suggestion that made sense to me.  He suggested adding stringers to the hull sides as a way to add stiffness without adding much weight.  I'm thinking about laminating a half round section of PVC to the hull sides about a foot down and covering with glass.  This along with the reenforcement of the hull/deck seam should beef things up without adding much weight.  It has the added benefit of requiring less grinding, a real bonus for me.

I'm also planning on running the cockpit sole all the way out to the hull sides this will add more stiffness and provide a way to completely enclose the buoyancy foam in the outer cavities from water.  They'll be completely encapsulated with glass.

Thanks to all for the continued input.  I'm listening, and your suggestions will make this a better build.

I've been collecting plunder, so I can begin the multiple steps needed to get the cockpit sole in.  Today I picked up 5 sheets of core material (4 for the deck and 1 for the bulkheads for the transom enclosure.  I decided to trade some money for a lot of time and purchased two ready made hatches (1 for bilge access and 1 to access forward storage). This should save me 30-40 hours of mold making.

My tank arrived last week.  It's 58 Gallons.  I had it built to the same width, depth and shape as the original, but 58" long instead of the 72".  This will help shift some weight forward to help offset a 4-stroke on a bracket, and 58 Gallons should be more than adequate for a 175 Suzuki.

Moving along nicely  :thumleft:

Removing the liner will make things much easier. I recommend drilling and dry fitting the bracket while the liner is still out.

Great suggestion, Blue.  I'll have to see if I can swing the $2500 + for the bracket without delaying the rest of the build, though.

Yeah, they are quite proud of their brackets. They are well built though, you'll be happy with the bracket. Regarding the 58 gallons of fuel, should be plenty of fuel.  I don't believe I have ever seen a fuel cell with the sender welded to the tank.

Its a flange welded to the tank.  the flange is threaded, so the sender screws in.  it's quite robust compared to the sender plate that screws to the tank.

The tank was more than I wanted to spend, $680, add tax and freight from Perry, $835.

All of the rotted ply is gone and I added 1708 Reenforcement in it's place,  4 layers aft and 6 in the bow all tabbed in with a 4" strip.  Should be solid and rot proof.

I also did a trial fit of Wire Chases.  I'm getting rid of the plumbing elbows and using conduit elbows.  I think I'll be able to size up one of the runs to 2 1/2".

Looks good!  Will those pipes come up inside your console?  Does your console extend past your stringers?

The pipes will come up inside the console when I'm done.  This was just a first run based on 1 trip to HD.  Now I have a better idea on what I'll need on my second run.  Actually the console does extend past the stringers, but I'm adding a ressessed toe kick, so that will subtract 7".  It will be a game of inches to get the chase right and extend just the right amount into the tank well.

Here are some updates on progress so far:  I've added 3/4 inch risers to the stringer tops.  They are left over carbon core board from my transom cores.  I'll have enough left to core the aft gunnels, the bow deck and the gunnel outrigger mounts.  I've also fitted a backing block for the stem to reenforce the bow eye.   Ive added gussets from the transom into the stringers and continue to plan chase tubes and other work.  Tomorrow, I'll tab in the stringer risers and gussets.

Those bends and sweeps look like you've got the rigging tubes worked out  :thumleft:
Make sure you attach the tubes to something with wetted out cloth strips so they don't move.
Does the carbon core hold a screw? Are you going to through bolt a t-top through it?  If so maybe leave access holes in the stringers/deck for a wrench or bed nuts/washers into the underside of the stringer?
What is the product you made the gussetts out of?

Looks real nice though.
