I got my console and leaning post painted in Materhorn White. I used Quantum 2 part polyurethane top coat and rolled on 3 coats sanding between. I don't have a clean space to paint in, so I ended up with some dust and minor surface imperfections that I'll need to wet sand/polish out. Overall I'm pleased.
I also did a dry fit of my electronics, helm, shifter and other console accessories. I couldn't help myself.

I used chemical stripper (Jamestown Distributors Total Boat) to remove as much of then black paint on the bottom as I could. It actually did a pretty good job only leaving discolored gel and a few spots. I applied at the beginning of the day, waited 3-4 hours and pressure washed the paint away. It took about 10 hours total spread over 2 days. Then another 8 hours of sanding left me with a clean gel bottom.
Overall, the bottom isn't in too bad of shape. There are a some scratches and gouges that will require filling. It looks like some voids in the forward strake were filled with an epoxy compound, but it looks tight. There is also about 3 feet of keel rash in the stem that was camouflaged by the black paint. I'll need to glass and fair the stem.
While the paint stripper worked its magic, I spent some time fairing the transom as well as over drilling, epoxy filling and re-drilling for the bracket bolts. It's a bit of overkill with the composite transom, but it will be rock solid and water tight.

Hull will be Kingston Gray. Cap and interior will be Matterhorn White, with gray nonskid. Maybe it’s because of my 85 170 AS, but I’ve allways had a thing for these hulls in gray.

I just read through this from start to finish. Awesome work! How do you like the prisma forms? I don't have a liner and will be looking for something to stiffen up the hull sides as well.

Thanks Mike, I like the Prizma planks a lot. They’re easy to work with, and they definitely stiffen up the hull sides. As for cost, I compared them to ripping planks of foam plus a layer of 17 oz biax, and they weren’t too much more. The boat is solid, and I’m confident that when it drops off a wave, there will be none of the rattling, you get from some boats.
Of course, now that I’m faced with fairing around all the stiffeners, I do find myself wondering about coreing the hull sides. I chose not to out of concern with bonding the core to the hull without vacuum bagging. That would have left me with flat surface to fair. Oh well, I have zero concern about the bonding of the planks.

Cool, thanks for the info. I was considering coring the whole side as well but have the same concerns about the bonding. Lots to consider but luckily I have some time before I get to that step.

It's the little things. Birdsall texted me a couple of photos of my backrest. They start on my T top on Tuesday.
