470 coolant leak at timing cover
« on: April 10, 2016, 06:31:51 AM »
well guys.... it finally happened. one of the two inherent problems with the mercruiser 470. I have been watching this location like a hawk because I think you can save the motor when you spot the coolant leaking past the first gaskets. from what I understand I need to sleeve the cam to eliminate the grooves that form and cause the leak and then replace the o-rings or gaskets. I would like to do the work myself. any suggestions? and if I have the work done professionally has anyone had this done and what should I expect in cost?
