Ideas needed to secure new fuel tank
« on: March 07, 2016, 05:41:54 PM »
I'll be installing my new tank  for a 175 from RDS in a couple of weeks and need some ideas for securing it in the coffin. THe tank that was removed had no restraining devices and just bounced around the coffin and sat  directly on the bottom which pitted it at about six years of service. I think it can be repaired but I don't want Capt. Bob yelling at me.  I don't think I can utilize the precut holes for a strap as there is somthing under the coffin that prevents running a snake over to the opposing side.

The new tank is larger than standard at  59.5 X 21.5 X 7 and will be a snug fit.  Any and all suggestions will be greatly appreaciated. :c017:

Folks on here with way more experience in these things than me steered me towards this method: http://www.yachtsurvey.com/fueltank.htm  Obviously you'll need to address the strap attachment.
If you search around there is a ton of info in the forums.
Good luck.

I framed my tank in with pressure treated 2x4's and used two part urethane expanding foam to fill the voids. Snug as a bug.

Did I read the Pasco method correctly?  It seems he advocates using 5200 to hold the tank in place; I guess this would work but how is it removed later? Dy-no-mite?
