Looking at a 1985 250CCP

Hi All. Figured this would be a good place for my first post.

Currently own an 18' Sunbbird CC and have been looking for a larger CC project.

Came across this 1985 250 CCP.

In short, the motor needs work -2000 Merc Optimax- also known as Opti-Bomb, so the owner is looking to part with it for cheap($2k)
Aside from the motor issues, should there be anything "Aquasport related" to look for in the hull?

I've been reading up on the CCP but haven't really read anything about problems with specific years.
Obviously I'll look for any bad spots in the hull/floor/transom.

Hoping someone can give me some insight before I pull the trigger.

Looking forward to the wealth of knowledge on this site.

Well you seem to know what to look for so....

Soft spots in deck(hatch) over fuel tank coffin and forward between stringers.

Transom around lifting rings, bilge drain and motor mounting bolts.

Fuel Tank!!!!

Hulls are usually very sound.

Good luck. :thumright:

Like Capt. Bob said, if the tank is original, plan on that in the near future.  It has a 120 gallon tank.  Most likely around $1,000.00 to $1,500 if you go back with original tank.

Like all older boats the transom is most likely wet, but how much remains to be seen.  I would take a buddy with you and have him stand on the motor and bounce up and down while you are looking down the transom for any flex.  Check for stress cracks where the splash well is joined to transom.
