Wash down/livewell pump
« on: January 06, 2016, 04:12:34 PM »
Took the boat out on a shakedown trip over the christmas break and the livewell/washdown pump took a crap on me.  The current pump is setup under the center console and is plumbed to the live well with a Y diverter that also will power the wash down hose.

After searching wash down pumps i've seen that most don't do double duty as the wash down pumps are not rated continuous duty like a live well pump would be.  The live well pumps don't have the pressure for the wash down.  I've pretty well narrowed down the replacement to the shurflo bait master 2.

Anyone else using this pump?  Any issues?  Any others that have been in use for a while without issue?

Slip,
I use that pump (older version). Got it in 2011 and it was working well in November of last year. It is a compromise but it works fine for my needs. It flows the live well just fine but I only run a 17 gal model (fake bait fan) and it has enough pressure to wash the deck quite well. I would not hesitate (knock on teak) to buy another (in ten or fifteen years) :ScrChin:

Good luck. :thumright:

PS...and no, the hose bib isn't located there. That was just to test the system.

Thanks for the info.  I'm going to trouble shoot a few non working electrical items and go from there.  Got to thinking I could always just do two pumps, I'll see what I find when I start testing electrical.  Not sure if i've got the room or not on my switch panel.

As stated above, this pump has worked very well for me. I believe it is rated for a well somewhat bigger than mine and the wash down pressure is very strong. It's located about 6' from the pickup and is about 10"-12" higher so it pulls a good head too. Dedicated pumps are the trick way to go. You get exactly what you want and if one fails, you're good to go on the other.

Still, the live well (if you are a big live bait user) is the important one. You can always improvise washing blood and guts from the deck.

This fit the bill perfect for my needs and has again, been very reliable over the last 5 years.

Good luck. :thumright:
