1985 250 CCP coffin box/gunnel caps
« on: December 29, 2015, 07:16:06 PM »
Gentlemen,

I hope all had a Merry Christmas and a great upcoming New Year!!! I have been off line recently and have not posted any updated restore pics, sadly enough the business that was getting ready to finish my boat, shut down, due to the unexpected passing of the owner.. I am about 80% complete, still working it and pressing forward. Just had the boat completely re-wired.

1,   So, coffin box, the 6' + one, what is the weight of it? anybody know???

2.  Gunnel caps they were half ass reworked and look terrible!! any body have any? I am thinking if I cant get any I will probably make some out of Teak or Mahogany.

looking for some input. thanks guys!!!!

I would guess that the coffin box is around 200lbs??  The one for the 250 is a little bigger than the one for the 222.  They are heavy but not well insulated.  I actually used the cooler part of the coffin box and the ice did not last long at all.  I use mine for storage.

As far as the gunnel caps go,  I would just make your own.  Even if you could find a pair, I doubt they would be in good shape.  Mine are teak on my 246 CCP.  Mahogany would be better in my opinion.

 :coolth:  J,

Thanks so much, my coffin box is heavy, probably around 200lbs, was just wondering if it might be water saturated.. I need the weight forward though, with enclosing the transom, adding a bracket and going from the original T 140's to T 200 loopers I have xtra weight in back that I will have to compensate up forward.

as far as the gunnel caps, you are right, I am going to go with Mahogany....

Thanks,
Navy :salut:

All,

well I got a great deal on some mahogany, cut, put the router to work, sanded look real good, hope to cut the rod holder holes this weekend then I will be staining them with Watco teak stain followed by Epifanes varnish..

Thanks,

Hi Navy,
Spend a couple minutes reading this thread and utilize the photo gallery you have here on the site.  It's real easy and then you don't have to worry about file size because the gallery sizes them as you upload them.
