Outboard motor bracket
« on: November 28, 2015, 07:43:06 PM »
Has anyone added an Armstrong like motor bracket to there aquasport.  I have a 87 osprey 200 and have been swamped a couple times in rough stuff. Thinking of closing transom and adding a motor bracket. Anyone have any advice..

I've been out in Fernando's boat and it does everything right with I believe a 30" offset Armstrong bracket with a EFI 200 Merc. But, his floor has been significantly raised so it will self bail, I thought he told me 4" but he can validate that. Without raising the floor and relocating the scuppers higher you're going to have to keep it plugged. He also moved his fuel tank forward to offset the additional stern squat. A lot of thinking went into his boat and it works plus he understands all of the details of what would need to done to make it work on your hull.

As has already been mentioned I have an Armstrong bracket, 30" setback, and a closed transom on my 19'6". I'm very happy with the set up and I'm glad I went this route rather than a porta-bracket. The floor has been raised approximately 2-1/2" and I did move the fuel tank forward to offset the extra weight on the back of the boat in an effort to keep the center of bouyancy some what correct.  I think you'll be happy if you go this route.

Thanks for the feedback.  Raising the floor was not in my budget.  Do you think it's a must or would I be OK with a deck mounted bilge? I was only going back 24". I also plan on fabing the bracket myself out of aluminum.any design advice is appreciated
