Nasty gas

juat want to say thanks in advance for all the previous help. I've got a 1998 175 aqua sport. I'm trying to get the nasty gas out with not much luck. Got some out, it had a reddish tint with a lot of black in it. Boats got a poly tank in it and about half full. I pulled the gas line out through drain into a bucket with a squeeze ball and still no gas . Finally, took the bulb off and mouth suctioned it and got maybe a half gallon out. I read some where that the vent may have dirt Dobber nests in it. The out board fish box drain was clogged with them, but I haven't checked the gas vent yet . Another part of my plan is to replace the gas line .I'm just tired of having spare tanks all over the deck while trying to fish wth my 80 yr old dad in Carrabelle. That 90 hp spl is pretty thirsty and would be nice to use the below deck tank. Am I on the right track? Thanks!

Check with your local auto parts store and they should have a 12 volt transfer pump that is made for removing gas from tanks. The pumps are usually not that expensive and the time saved would be worth it.

Open your gas fill cap while trying to siphon the gas out through your fuel line. It will function as a vent, as long as there isn't a low spot (trap) in the fill line. This will also help confirm if your vent is clogged.

Has anyone had issues with the vent being clogged by those mud wasps?

Oh yes,
I had them there and everywhere else. Not sure why they choose that spot. Also Oleander caterpillar cocoons. We have a fish camp on the St. John's river with boats on a covered rack that guys are forced to keep their flush muffs with a plug on the water fitting to keep them from nesting in the water intakes on the gear case because they're so bad over there. I found that straight vinegar does a good job of breaking down that saliva they use to mix the mudcake making it easier to flush it away without having to scrub the remains, I get the damn things under my soffit on the house so the vinegar in a spray bottle helps with removal.

I'll have to give the vinegar a try around the house
Thanks Farley.
