replacing the wood on the fuel coffin cover

good with fiber glass and mat. what kind of wood
should I use?

What's right about plywood?

Inexpensive, easy to work with, and readily available. Plays well with screws.

Or a composite if you prefer.

Same thickness that was there before, and it should be made with waterproof (exterior glue) and have as few voids as possible.

You can keep it sealed forever by drilling out the spots where you will use screws (double diameter or more of the fastener), then fill the holes with epoxy putty (use same epoxy as you will for the glass and glue).  If you then drill pilot holes, you can paint over top and the epoxy plugs will not show - basically making an insert that will forever keep out water.

I never did any fiberglass ins befor but need to do mine too should I use tha 5200 stuff in the screw holes that held down cover?

5200 is for semi-permanent installation.  You can bed the cover and screws in good latex caulking - you want to be able to get the cover off again later.

UV 4000 works very good also.

It isn't latex though. Clean up is with mineral spirits.

You have to work steady when using or it will skin over sooner (much quicker) than 5200. I suck at caulking (and have been told the same) but form aside, it functions well and cleans very easily. I use Simple Green on spots, blood and guts and the caulk joints. Been on about 5 years. Still looks like a six year old did it but doesn't leak.

Finally got the wood replaced under the coffin cover. (sorry I didn't take any pics)
came out pretty darn good. Took out the old wood, wasn't to hard to do.
Did a little sanding, mixed resin and hardner, laid down some cloth mat.
mixed more resin and hardner after the first one dried. Had to do a little
cutting on the 1/2" sheet of plywood to get it to fit right, everthing came out fine.
covered the plywood with resin, laid resin down in the fuel cover, then put in the plywood
put some cbs blocks on the ply wood. after it dried mixed more resin and hardner, put
more mat down after it hardened a little trimming of the mat and it was installed.
what a difference that made. now it doesn't flex when I step on it.
