01 250 Osprey Few Questions
« on: April 06, 2015, 09:07:51 PM »
Finally picked up the boat even though I bought it last month, finally Spring. Anyway, I got time to clean and discover the boat today and there are things I have no clue how they work so if anyone could enlighten me I would be appreciative.
1.  Should the bow bilge, where the freh water tank is, drain to the back or is there a pump for that area?
2.  Pump in the same compartment with fresh water tank, that is for fresh water wash down only?
3. The pump from quest. 2 above, the wiring is constantly "hot'" with electricity and the plug connection is hot to the touch. I'm assuming I have a bad switch or short somewhere.
4.  There is a small square tank in the transom compartment, starboard side, behind the batteries, that has 2 lines coming out of it, is that the sea star hydraulic steering tank?
5.  Last question, for now

This is a photo from the 95 catalog. I'll bet your stringer system is the same so, yes.
Water "flows" bow to stern when the bow is elevated. Pipes are placed through the bulkheads (along the keel) to allow this flow. I don't think you have a separate forward bilge pump.

Does the pump look similar to this (3rd. pic down)? If yes, it powers the fresh water wash down/shower in the stern.

I would think it's wired through the positive buss in the helm and is "hot" when the battery switch is in one of the "on" (1, 2, both) positions. Hot's not good period (unless it's water or a woman).

Power steering reservoir? Where do the lines go? You said you had Lenco tabs. That space (general area anyway) is usually where you would find the hydraulic pump for Bennett trim tabs.

I don't know squat about power assisted steering, sorry.

Can you post a few pics?

Thanks.

Bob, you nailed them all!  Pump is exactly like that, and the picture of the reservoir is exactly like that, so it is the power steering!  Thanks so much for the information!

You mentioned Seastar Hydraulic Steering - that is all contained in two parts, the helm itself and the engine "cylinder" portion.  There is no "pump". http://www.amazon.com/Seastar-Hydraulic-Steering-Kit/dp/B0000AXYHE/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1428399437&sr=8-2&keywords=seastar+steering

Are you sure you have Lenco electric tabs?  The pump CB showed you is from a Bennett hydraulic system. http://www.bennetttrimtabs.com/m80m120-sport-tab-system/

If you have a PowerPole then you might have another type of pump - I've had two types of pumps for this, http://power-pole.com/ProductDesc.aspx?code=Pump-PRO-f&type=4&eq=&desc=Pro-Series-Pump-System and a bennett pump.  So it depends on what accessories you have.

TY,
Rick is correct on the reservior. The photo is a Bennett pump for their trim tab system.
The two hoses you see would transport the hydraulic fluid to each trim tab.
Sorry I was not clear on that point.

A pic of the trim tab will also help. The actuator is usually labeled on the Lenco while the Bennett is not. They are also shaped differently to some degree.

Good luck.

TY,
I've moved the trim tab discussion to your other thread.
