Yes the tank is out in my garage next to woodstove thawing outThe previous owners must have filled the tank with waterfor ballast I thinkThe pick up two is broke off of the fitting because it goes down and then makes a 90° turnthrough a hole in the baffle towards the back of the tank

Martin,

If that's the original tank you may want to reconsider and replaced it with a new tank. Can you see the manufacturer's tag on the tank?

Very good.
I think you'll feel a lot more comfortable with this investment and you can start with a clean fuel system and hopefully avoid future contaminated fuel problems that are common this days.

Good luck and post up your progress. :thumright:

Martin,

The "look" is up to you. That stated, I think you will find that the aluminum will get very hot in the sun. If you like pacing the deck barefoot, you may find this area uncomfortable.

Just a thought.

My $.02 - I think it would look like a ....well... a hatch cover.  Like someone made it as an after thought instead of being part of the design.  Also agree with CB about the heat.  The regular floor will get warm enough in some instances, the aluminum will get scorching.

diamond plate coffin cover
OMG NOOOOOOOOO!!    :confused1:  I realize you're in Durham CT and I'm in South Florida, but I grew up in Guilford so I fished the same waters.   :tme:  The diamond plate will get CRAZY hot in the summer sun, and it will also be VERY slippery when wet.  Stick with fiberglass and gelcoat unless you want to buy one of those custom but expensive covers to protect your feet.  Many of the members here have just re-cored their covers to fix any waterlogging or weaknesses.  It's a pretty darn easy project and takes no more than a weekend of your time.
