Results of "more fun...." - Fuel
« on: August 23, 2006, 05:40:19 PM »
Took the boat to mechanic. See "More fun w/ethanol".

$724 - 6 hours labor plus parts

Fuel pump diaphram had slight damage and was replaced.
Carbs were black and were redone.

Here is the interesting part. They said the fuel in my tank was green in color. What would cause fuel to turn green?

I'm going with external tanks until I can get the tank replaced.

If you're 2-stroke the green color tint might be from the oil in the mix.  If 4-stroke, the green likely is coming from the tank itself.  E10 strips old fuel deposits and varnish from the inner surfaces and holds them in suspension.  If it gets past the filter the carb jets will plug.  Green seems an odd color though; contamination I've seen from E10 is pink.

Sorry to hear it.

I just made an order for extra filters from these guys.  Best Racor prices that I have found.  $10 cheaper than the highwaymen at West Marine.

JimCt,
I don't mix oil. I have an injection oil tank. I'm really puzzled by the color.

JJ,
Yes, I have ordered from them too. I need 2 external tanks today. The LAST place to get my money will be Worst Marine.

Does this mean that your motor is now running fine?

I had 2 6 gallon portable gas jugs in my garage.  One of them was a mixture of 2-stroke for my dirtbike however the 2-ST oil is gold and as I was pouring gas into a jar to try and discern which was which, I noticed a slight green tinge from both jugs.

I ended up putting both jugs of gas of which there was only about 2 gallons of gas, into the boat, I'm not risking my 500cc dirtbike motor for $6 worth of gas.

It appears at the moment that the green colored gas came from the gas station that way.

Boat will get a 12 gallon external tank this afternoon. Going out for Bonito after work.

This is what I was just told by a reliable source.

Alcohol absorbs moisture from the atmosphere, in most cases it phase seperates, in my case there isnt enough to phase seperate or give any other indication but the algae is in the water.

I have a scientist at work that "might" test it for me.
