Mercury's New Eco Prop
« on: February 02, 2015, 04:22:15 PM »
We all know what a difference the right prop can make!  Mercury is now claiming a 20% improvement in fuel economy with their new Eco series props.  It seems big diameter and lots of rake help efficiency.  Boating Magazine tests seem to be positive:

I wonder how it compares to the standard enertia, like the one I have?  I know when I put my 15 x 15 enertia next to a similar prop, it dwarfs it in blade and rake size.  I know my fuel numbers improved dramatically after the reed valve issue and injector cleaning.

Marc - if you went from a 14" diameter to a 15" - you are probably doing like the Merc Eco - more diameter = seems to = better efficiency.  I will be interesting to see how the number of blades (3, 4 or 5?) weighs in as these props evolve...
