Bow Rail
« on: January 31, 2015, 09:18:05 AM »
I am needing to replace some missing fixtures of the bow rail. The ones needing replaced are the 8 that mount to the boat gunnel. My problem is I don't have the old ones to match up the angles. Is there a standard size or are all different. The rail is for a 1974 170.

Base mounts I've seen are fairly standard 30, 45, 60 and 90 degree female ends. Assuming you have the railing, you could set it up on the bow ( with a little help in holding in place) and get a good idea of the degree needed at the different spots.

Looking at this ad it appears you have 60 degree bases.

Good luck.

Thanks Capt. Bob for posting the pic, pretty neat to see an ad from the 70's. I ended up finding them at a marine surplus near us. They are 7/8" 60 degree round base. Ended up getting all 8 of them and the "T" fittings for the upper part of the rail in all stainless. Most of them were clearanced out for about $3....thank goodness. Once we clean the rail up it will look like new.
