paint removal

My 22 has what looks like house paint on the deck, I m thinking latex? I want to chemically strip it off....Anyone have a product recommendation that will not eat away the fiberglass?

Latex paint will soften when rubbed with alcohol (rubbing not drinking).

Try a spot first to determine if it is latex. If so, painting the surface with iso and covering with plastic ( so it doesn't evaporate) will soften the paint. I've done this on wood doors before.

Since it's on the deck, a pressure washer should make it easier to remove once it has soaked and become soft.

If Bob's approach doesn't work...I used this stuff on part of my bottom paint:



I painted it on, covered it with a sheet of plastic, let it sit for a couple hours, and then took a paint scraper to it.  Here is what I was left with:



As you can see it helped, but it was not completely effective.  I may have been able to apply another coat and get more off, but from there I used a sander and 40 grit paper, which is what I used on the rest of the boat.

I'm not sure how it would do with whatever paint you have, but if you try it, I would use a test spot like Bob suggested.

Oh Oh Oh O'Rielly Auto parts here in Tallahassee carries it. I've used their (Klean Strip) product on metal parts before with good results. Might find it at a HD , Lowes or Ace.

I assume you are asking about the stuff I used (but I'm not Rick).  I bought it online (couldn't find it locally), but I don't remember where.  I think I bought it almost 2 years ago (yes, I've been working on my rebuild that long).  It's not cheap....

Sorry CLM65, it was u I was asking....I got some and it worked well, only thing is now that the paint is off I have found some sort of 2 part epoxy type paint/non skid.....Im looking at just sanding what I have and putting new non skid over the entire deck....I tried removing the old stuff only to find myself digging into the old gelcoat and making it worse...I called a fiberglass guy we deal with at work and he said get some boat turf as he laughed at my situation....ughhh
