I purchased and installed a mod today that will show you if the PM you sent to someone has been read. You look in the list of PMs in your message center and to the left the icon shows an open envelope beside the PM if it's been read.
So the example above shows that the top two PMs have been replied to and sent but not read by the receiver yet. The lower 2 PMs have been read.
