And gauge back-lighting.  You can do this on Yamaha gauges by unplugging the blue wire off the gauges, extend it and terminate to the same terminal on the nav lgt switch.

Odd you were able to do this Bob.  All DC appliances I know of (including switch illumination lights) have a operating range of typically between 9 and 14 VDC.  Once the batt voltage drops below 9, the appliances cease to function.

Hum, I'm confused.  :?
Rereading my post, I probably read 7 (or now it seems 9) volts on the meter, not 2 but I would have thought that if the switch was in the on position long enough, the battery would drain completely.

Are you saying that below 9 volts, the filament in the lamp acts like a switch (too much resistance) and stops the flow? I always thought the 9-14 VDC rating on the lamp was the range of voltage needed for illumination.

Bob, if the lamp is not lit, if the pump is not running (not a bound up shaft, just not running), the appliance consumes no juice.  Yes, in effect, a switch.  Remember, you have + coming in one side of the lamp or pump, - going out the other side.  Without operating, the circuit is broken, and no juice is consumed...
