Boat repair recomendation
« on: December 24, 2014, 03:10:39 PM »
I need to have quite a bit of work, not full rebuild, on an Aquasport 1968 Flatback.  I have heard of Hammerhead and Shipoke.  Any comments and/or recommendations.

We hear good things about Shipoke and unsure about Hammerhead. HH used to do good work, not sure if anyone from here used him in the past few years.  You also have Bayside Marine and Stem to Stern which I've heard good things about.

Where are you located at?  Eugene (Shipoke) was located in Safety Harbor, but he changed his business somewhat and partnered up with someone in Sarasota I believe.  I don't think he performs rebuilds out of his Safety Harbor shop anymore.  Plus he sold Shipoke, so you won't find him under that name.  He does/did do top notch work though, so he would definitely be worth a call to see if he can help.  Let me know if you need his number.

Another option is Robb Young in Inglis.  Robb builds great boats, and does great repair/rebuild work as well.  He would definitely be worth a call.

First, Merry Christmas everyone... I think we all remember Kevins experience with HH earlier this year, at least I think it was Kevin; a disaster and Eugene had to fix it up. I can PM you Eugene's cell number, just give me a nod. He's still doing rebuilds. Just not sure what he's specializing in these days. He also recommended a new guy starting out that would be lower cost to do my '68 Whaler I just picked up. I can send you that info as well. I haven't talked to this fellow yet, but if Eugene recommended him then I trust the endorsement. Also our member Dirtwheels has done some very nice work and posted them on our site. Recently he did a 22-2 Mullet boat so take a look at that build (recently posted). Look in the rebuild forum.

How could I forget Chris (sorry Chris) - DirtwheelsFL.  Here is his own rebuild http://www.classicaquasport.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=39&t=4582 - judge for yourself.

And the mullet boat http://www.classicaquasport.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=11965
