Leaning post / livewell build
« on: November 12, 2014, 01:40:35 PM »
Been building this leaning post/livewell for a friends 31 Contender.  Figured id share

Mold being made.

Used some clay from a craft store cuz glass place was closed haha

Outside skin

1/2 cores

Inside skin

Mold taken off

Front storage hatch and livewell lid cut

Toekick/mounting flange mold

Toekick will match the one on the center console, and have the white trim around the edge.

Finish cloth on the seam.

Rear will not have the toekick because the reduction in livewell volume it would create.

Next is the male molds for the livewell and under seat storage...

4 layers of 1708 laid up in epoxy.   White stuff is just the mold material.   Its like an mdf w some kind of coating on it

First layer is mat, then 2x1708, mat, 1/2" foam core (i forget what its called, some recycled stuff made by the same people as corecell) then 1708 on inside.  And lots of overlaps and extra glass on the livewell lip.    Pretty light right now...

All poly except the toekick layup.     Trying to save a little $$.    The livewell and under seat storage box will also be made in poly then tabbed with epoxy...

I can already see the sides shrinking and bowing in  :?    Did i mention i hate polyester? Haha

Got the inside skin of the livewell made. Gonna glue on some 1/2" foam on sides and bottom and laminate outer skin, then glue and tab into the leaning post..

Clear pieces are some finish cloth laid up in epoxy on the inside of a big half round piece of pvc, then finish nailed to the mold.

Layer of mat, and 2 of 1708. More in the drain area..
