what to order, teleflex replacement 1994 175

Hey guys,

i ordered a nice new wheel for my boat and when i got the old one off i found this!



so needless to say, i need a new helm. It currently has a teleflex safe -t helm and I'm happy to stay with the teleflex either safe -t or NFB but can't make out the part number on the grocery store sticker teleflex uses to identify their parts so can anyone give me a definitie answer. It is on a 1994 175 osprey with a 1999 Johnson 70 2smoke.

I'm going to order the whole kit not just the helm so i'll have matching parts if i have to replace other parts of the steering in the future.

Greg, the Safe-T and NFB helms are generic to all boats, simple difference being the cable length.  So, for instance, if you want an NFB helm, go here...http://www.boatersland.com/nfb-4-2.html, and order the helm with the appropriate length cable.  Easy peasy...

do i want the NFB 4.2 turn or NFB safe -T II which is 3 turns?

also, if i order the NFB, do i have to switch out all the components or can i just do the helm now and then the cables/rod later when needed?

from another thread i read, someone said 14' is the correct length. is that right?

How many turns LTL do you have now?  If your comfortable with what you have, stay with the same.  And, no, you don't have to swap out the cable now if it's still performing well...

thanks. i re read this viewtopic.php?p=108393 where he mentions he likes the 4.2 NFB you linked me to so i ordered that in 14' length.

I'll save the hydraulics for the 26' Shamrock I'm rebuilding.

express ship for Friday so after this weekend i will have the sweetest steering Aquasport on the canal!
